FAQ's
Our most common Pilates questions
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.
Pilates and yoga are both focused on mindful movement and they both use breathing whilst doing each movement (although the type of breath used is different)
Each movement in pilates is core based, everything you do comes from the core. Both pilates and yoga focus on the flow of movement, although pilates is only done in a flow once all exercises have been mastered. In pilates we also use small apparatus eg. Balls, bands, weights, foam rollers, pilates rings as well as large resistance based equipment. Pilates focuses on slow, precise control of movement. Small adjustments can make a huge difference to an exercise. However, we do not focus on a spiritual connection in Pilates.
Pureform Pilates workouts focus on core fitness, mobility, flexibility, coordination, endurance, wellness and creating your most beautifully balanced body and mind. We make sure that all our clients get the attention they deserve in reaching their personal goals, be it in strength, flexibility, recovery from injury or overall well being.
We recommend to take a Pureform Pilates class at least twice a week. This creates quicker muscle memory and once the body is used to the movement you can then add more sessions depending on your goals. Pilates can then be incorporated into a daily routine. It is still beneficial to take a Pureform Pilates class once a week, especially when used in conjunction with other forms of training.
Concentration is key in Pilates. The more mindful you are of your body and the way it moves, the more benefit you will get from it and the quicker the results will be. Give yourself at least 6 weeks and from there you should start to feel and see the change you are looking for.
Joseph Pilates says: “Feel the difference after 10 sessions, see the difference after 20 sessions, you’ll have a whole new body after 30 sessions”.
Doing Pilates will tone your muscles and give your body a different shape. Pilates is a way of life, you will not loose weight by doing pilates alone, but rather by using it in conjunction with a healthier lifestyle.

Pilates is focused on strengthening the core, if the core is strong then the back doesn’t have to compensate in every movement. Exercises do need to be done correctly in order to feel relief.
